Swing Dancing

Thursday in class, after showing off our lovely masterpieces, we swing danced. I wouldn't say "lessons" are too good for conditioning, but I'm sure once you master the skills (flips etc) it could become pretty intense. Adam was nice enough not to drop me on my head when we did all the stunts, but I definitely would need some practice if doing it in public public. I'm guessing my heart rate got to 140 a times.

Speaking of heart rate, my heart rate monitor has yet to be returned to me. I better not have wasted 40 bucks....

Anyway, I hope everyone has a great summer! Hopefully we'll have some classes together in the future.

P.S. Whatever happened to the blog awards!?!

It's been fun...

So everything is winding down. Well, almost. I still have to find a place to live this summer... Everyone should come work out at the wellness center because I'll be there for most of the summer and it's going to be BORING.

Anyway, Tuesday's football activity, although enthralling... didn't get my heart rate going too much. Tom's field was more intense though. I prefer flag football or two hand touch or something.

Not too much for physical activity for me though... to much homework and work.

Excuses excuses, right?

Volleyball activity

I was going to blog about our volleyball activity earlier in the week, but then I started thinking if I post it here, then what will I say in that "assessment" part of our final? Therefore, I'll be brief.

I thought it went alright. Volleyball is a much more aerobic sport if you actually KNOW how to play it - position switching, cover, spike approach, etc. And if you're on an athletic team... it's much more intense. Otherwise, I am aware that it can amount to a lot of standing around if you don't get into it.

I also played sand volleyball yesterday for about an hour. It is definitely less aerobic than court vball just because you can really run very well in sand, and at least not very fast.

More later.

HR Monitor

So it's been quite some time since I sent in my heart rate monitor to be fixed/or replaced. I wonder if they'll even send something back or if I just wasted $40 of my life savings? Anyway...

If I HAD had my heart rate monitor on Friday... when I checked out some apartments, it would have skyrocketed when I checked some efficiencies out downtown. I tell you, some of those places a 350 bodybuilder wouldn't even want to live in. Have you ever seen an apartment that was 300 square feet? I have... and not including the bathroom, it's smaller than a dorm room.

So the point of the story is... I still have no place to live this summer and it's not looking good.

Until later.

Is it raining at your house?

I completely forgot about blogging this week. Probably because I haven't done much for activity. On Friday night I went for a run about 7:25ish thinking I was just going to do a nice 2 mile jog since I have been giving my injured leg a break. I set out in a sprinkle, but then about 3miles later I realized that I was already 3miles away from campus, so I might as well just make this my long run of the week.... so I did about 10miles. 7:25-9:05... after the 8th mile my leg was killing me but I know I can't accomplish anything if I skip the long runs. I'm thinking about going down to meritcare sports medicine to see if there's anything I can do for my leg. Anyway, it was wet, cold, and dark... AND the worms were out. I guess we just can't get into spring over a week, but I hope it's nice soon.

As for now, I've got to write a "750 palabra composicion argumentativo sobre "Deben las mujeres correr?"" Thanks for the topic Chuck (Should women run?) Too bad it's due tomorrow... otherwise I could have actually learned something. That's the problem with school... everything is on such a tight schedule that I don't actually LEARN... you just research, write it down, and don't even have time to think about it. Maybe it's just me.

HPF

So I'm in this psychology class "Research Methods" and the point of the whole class is to write a research proposal. My hypothesis is that mental training sessions will elevate athletic performance while decreasing levels of anxiety. I've done some research on the topic - biofeedback, mental techniques to improve performance, etc. - and I'd encourage anyone to look into this stuff. In my design I'm using biofeedback to monitor heart rate and using techniques to help learn to control it (that's the dumbed down version). Anyway, I'm signed up for the "Optimal Performance" seminar next semester so I hope it's something worthwhile.

OH! Chuck... I need to actually apply for the Human Performance major, and I need a professional "non-faculty" reference. Does faculty include everyone that works at NDSU or who would be good for this?

Kickboxing and Taebo

So Tuesday we did Taebo... I'm gonna have to say it didn't get my heart rate going too high. The "double time" did a little, but I don't think I would use it as regular workout.

Today we did Kickboxing with the lovely Kristin McCabe. It was a little better, took more coordination, and the jab-jacks did get the HR up a little bit and I was sweating, but my recovery rate was much faster than if I was doing a more intense workout.

Or maybe I'm just in better shape than I used to be.

Yesterday I had a 5M run to do and since I'm tired of the Wellness Center I made plans to go up to the BSA during open gym... Turns out varsity sports (like baseball...uggh I hate the sport, sorry Chuck) get to practice whenever they want, so I couldn't run on the track. You'd think they would change the schedule for open gym hours or something! So I did a stadium stairs workout. Kinda hard to explain, but I did that for about 55 minutes. I would venture to say my heart rate was around the 160s going up the stairs, and recovered during the straights and downs, so you could say it was an easy interval workout I guess.

Sorry... no interesting stories other than I got a tour of the new expansion of the Wellness Center. It is going to be sweet! And huge! If anyone is interested, next week Monday, Tuesday, and the following Monday we're having a "recruiting" session for new staff to do wall climbing duty, floor staff, fitness specialists, etc. It's a great facility and it'll be great experience if you personal train, lead group exercise classes, etc. Just thought I'd plug it here.

Let's Eat!

Tuesday
According to my pre-planned half marathon training program I was supposed to run 4M... but I could barely make three because of the shooting pain in my right leg. Because swimming is supposed to be one of the easiest exercises on your body, I took Wednesday and Thursday off from running and did another 80 laps (which is well over what this lazyman triathlon required of me).

Friday
I ran a nice easy 3 miles yesterday, and to my surprise, everything went well. No pain at all, which was good news foreshadowing my long run today.

Saturday
I did 9M today at the Wellness Center... the first seven on the treadmill and the last two around the loop. Chuck, is it important on these long runs not to stop running? I mean... I know you said you did the run/walk method, some people walk the water stations, etc. but physically, is it beneficial or detrimental to your running state? I was just wondering... I know previous to this year, I could never bring myself to stop or walk during a run... so is it just a personal preference? Anyway, after I finished I did a LONG cool down with some dynamic and static stretching. It felt good, actually accomplishing something I've never done. I hope it's all worthwhile.

Here is a week-long total of physical activity(excluding the in-class activities, since I don't know which MET levels to use for wiffle ball in an enclosed space or twirling for double dutch for hours!

Bike 15 min - 96 kcal
Run 160 min - 1535 kcal
Elliptical 20 min - 183 kcal
Volleyball 40 min - 219 kcal
Swimming 180 min - 1315 kcal

Total: 3348 kcal for the week. I hear when marathon runners are asked why on earth they would want to run a marathon, the most frequent response is "I love to eat." I say that's a pretty good philosophy.

I'm beginning to realize what endurance running is all about. It's not a matter of cardiovascular conditioning after a certain point - it's about your legs being physically capable of going the distance. I can only hope mine don't give out before then.

Snow..........once again.......in April!

Monday:
Swam 60 laps... Sorry I didn't say hey Adam, I was in a hurry. Only 40 more and then I'm free of it. I might still do it, I have a feeling it'd be really good for my upper body strength, but right now I don't have the energy to swim and run and lift and work and homework. So it'll have to wait.

20 minutes of the new elliptical at the Wellness Center during the Ohio State/Florida game (was it just me or did Ohio State suck?)
Used the machine to take my HR: 150 after 10 minutes, same after 20 minutes.
3M run 25 minutes

I asked an athletic training major what he thought could be wrong with my leg when I run... said it could be from running on a slant, or running the same direction on the track too often. So today I tried the treadmill for 3M. It still hurt. It may just be because it still hasn't gotten over it, or that's not the problem. Chuck, is there some place on campus I could ask for advice? Student health will probably be a waste of my time...

Anyway, have I mentioned I hate snow? I was staying here for Easter mainly so I could get some running in... but turns out someone hates me and made it snow.

Lazy man/woman triathlon...

So this blog is going to be short. This week I joined the Wellness Center Lazy Man triathlon as a team of three. I'm doing the swimming part. Considering I work or have class at 2 of the 3 times the BSA has open swim, I probably will be stuck going at 7 AM. YAY! They should really change the recording on that message machine up there though, because I went up there the other day thinking it was open until 9 PM but it wasn't and I was royally mad. I have 60 lengths done of the 160 lengths total. And I tell you this, I haven't swam like that in a long time, so it's a really good workout. I wonder if using flippers would be considered cheating? Anyway, with that, my running seems alot harder as well. It's SO hard to manage everything I ahve to do. I have to come up with a new class schedule, look for an apartment this summer, train, work, finish my 19 credits I have this semester... so pretty much all i have time for is training, working, homework, and eating. Then I sleep... ohhhhhh sleep!

My resting heart rate has probably increased over the past few weeks, just because I have so much more to worry about. Anyway... later!

Class Aerobic Activities

Tuesday
Chuck's Ships and Sailors was definitely not something I would use for kids older than 12, just because people don't like to try awkward, dorky games like that:P As for Alaskan/Siberian kickball, it got the heart working. It was a nice variation of standard kickball. I actually played a rousing game of kickball over Spring Break... and my heart rate wasn't nearly as high then as it was during class. I might change the rule about kicking it behind you though.....

I have to be honest about Thursday's salsa dancing... I was not going to show up. But my overwhelming urge to please the masses, and not to throw off the guy to girl ratio, I came against my better judgement.

It wasn't so bad.

Adam was a good sport, but Shawn was an even better sport. I bet my heart rate was increased just from laughing so much at our mad dipping skills. I can't believe we made it to the dance-off!!! Haha... we probably looked like complete nerds, but it was fun nevertheless. Maybe we'll have to take a dance class later on!

This blog is getting kinda tedious... *frowns*

So this weekend has been fun-filled with excursions through muddy terrain and the only hills in the FM area. I went frolfing. It was a long, exhausting wait through winter, but I made it. And you know, I still have some od my mad skills. Too bad we can't take everyone frolfing for the aerobic activity, although it doesn't get your heart pumping too hard. Yesterday was also my long run day. I had planned on mapping it out so it'd be exactly 8 miles, but then I realized running through the city of Fargo has its detours, so I just went for an hour and 15 minutes. I wish I had a heart rate monitor!!!! You know, to see the progress, if any. I'm sure there is... to be honest, I don't get tired any more when I run long distances, it's just the fact that my legs start to hurt, muscles and tendons and all. But I'm sure that's normal...

We also had our first intramural volleyball game tonight. We got our asses kicked. Well, kind of... we lost all three games but didn't lose our spirits! I'm sure once we get a game plan strategized and teach the boys some of the techniques, we'll be better.

Frolfing in Moorhead +5
1 hour 25 minutes
Apprx HR: 130

8M run
1 hour 15 minutes
Apprx HR: 170

Volleyball
45 minutes
Apprx HR: 180 during the intense rallies, generally around 150 I'd say. It was ungodly hot in the BSA tonight, and if you ask me, someone should really do something about that.

Have a good night!

P.S. I may practice for my advanced spanish grammar class by writing these in Spanish as well, just to spice it up;) We will see....

And by the way....

It kills my soul when the day is full of school and work and I can't enjoy being outside. Lucky you I guess.
Monday
Workout at the Wellness Center
Treadmill: 30 minutes, 6 mph
1% incline 5 minutes, 5% incline 5 minutes alternating
Since my HR monitor is broken, I would have to estimate it was around 170 during 1% and 190 during 5%.
Lifted upper body
Chest Flies, Declined Bench, Biceps, Triceps, Lat Pulldown, Seated Row
Abs 10 minutes

Tuesday
Workout at the Wellness Center
3 mile 25 minutes around loop
HR probably around 170
Lifted lower body
Deadlifts, Leg Press, Lunges, Leg Curl/Extension, 4 Hip Machine, Lower Back
Abs 15 minutes

Wednesday
First run outside of the year in Fargo
Athletic Loop, Admin Loop, and Wellness Loop 4 miles
I felt really good. Not even winded. But there is something going wrong with my right leg. If only I was in Anatomy and knew all the muscles, then I could describe it. Hopefully it goes away soon.

Anyway, until next time.

Spring Break

So home isn't as glorious as it once was. My friends and family have moved away and Bismarck just isn't the same anymore. I think I've finally made my decision about this summer. I didn't want to stay in Fargo, mainly because I've grown to love the summers in Bismarck. For those of you who have grown up near neither a river nor lake you may not understand. If you grew up by the Red River you will NEVER understand. One can actually swim and lay on sand on the Missouri River near Bismarck. I know the city inside and out - the best bike paths, parks, and pretty much everything there is to do. Fargo just seems so....... flat. I don't want to succumb to summer school and a job in Fargo, but that is where my life is headed. Somehow I feel like I'm giving up.

But anyway, aside from THAT sob story, I have another that is more of interest to this class. I have been training here (in Bismarck) over break and I have forgotten what hills feel like on the body! Back during my recovery after ACL surgery I made the transition from home to Fargo, where then I did all my physical therapy exercises pretty much on my own. So about 8 months after the injury, I was back to running on the treadmill. Then about a year later, I actually got to run outside again (thank goodness! That god forsaken treadmill will be the end of me someday!) and hills were the most miserable thing on the knee. I had forgotten completely to integrate them into my treadmill workout. Now I know better. But running in Bismarck has been trying, because I don't think I ever properly recovered my running uphill muscles. This will be my goal for the next ten weeks or so.

On the brighter side of things... I got some new running shoes today. Hopefully the hundred I put out for them is well worth it. Only time will tell.

Oregon trail.... and their scientific heart rate monitors

So I forgot to mention Saturday on my long run... at about the 1.5 mile marker, the batteries in my MP3 player died, which always sucks. Then, on top of THAT, about 4 miles in my heart rate monitor watch display goes crazy and now every display option is displayed and it doesn't work anymore. Hopefully the Varsity Mart exchanges it or I'm gonna be pissed. If they don't, I'll have to send it in to the company and get it fixed which could take months. So I'm gonna have to just make some estimates for the time being.

*I wrote that on Monday. Turns out the Varsity Mart won't take anything back after 30 days. So... I have to ship it out. I'm wondering if I should just buy another one for the time being, and take it back in 30 days when I get my new replacement.

Also, on the HR monitor topic. I was ridiculed quite outrageously the other day by my fellow co-workers at the Wellness Center about my resting heart rate while sitting around being around 95 bpm. When they found out the were like, "Well that's why! Check this out guys (to a random work-outer) she has a heart rate monitor from the VARRRSITY MART! Yeah, I have a resting heart rate of 200 but what's your point!?" blah blah blah. I was heartbroken to say the least:P Tell me.... is it my heart rate monitor that is giving me crappy readings, or do I just have a higher heart beat than most people?

Maybe I will try the manual method later.

Workout in front of the tv screen!

So here it is. One of the best workouts known to in the video gaming world.

NINTENDO Track and Field

These are a few pictures of me on the official "Power Pad". As you can see, I'm really in the zone. This game includes the 100 meter dash, 110 meter hurdles, long jump, and the triple jump. Granted that the "Power Pad" came out in 1987, and this one was probably purchased around... 1990, it's a little worn out. But there is the Olympics where you can compete with your friends in all four events and even a tournament where you compete against computer athletes like "Turtle" "Rabbit" "Bobcat" or even "Cheetah". If you think you're bad at Dance Dance Revolution because your eye-foot coordination isn't quite up to par, try this game because it doesn't require much of that, but does require quick feet. My friends like to cheat on the jumping events though, just jump off the pad while the player's in mid-air. I don't know if you can see it in the screen shots, but in the long jump I had 14.27 meters... which means I'm pretty much superhuman. That's not even my best!:P A friend of mine just ordered Track and Field II off EBay so the games have just begun! Plus, Dance Aerobics after Spring Break:) If only I had enough "Power Pads" for the whole class!

http://www.planetnintendo.com/thewarpzone/powerpad.html

Here's a link to show you more about Nintendo's "Power Pad" games. Read about its history... Apparently there was a version invented first in Europe because parents were worried their kids were getting out of shape from Nintendo!

In order to change we must be sick and tired of being sick and tired.

Here are the workouts for this past week.

Monday
Warm-up: 10 minutes elliptical
Ran a 4 mile Fartlek (ohhh Chuck, don't worry, I knew what a Fartlek was long ago...)
36 minutes. I would say about an hour directly after this I came down with the worst cold I've had in the past five years or so. All I wanted to do was sleep, but with a month's homework, projects, and tests of online statistics class due on Friday, I didn't really have time for that sort of thing with classes and work. HR 170
Cool down and abs

Thursday
Warm up: 15 minutes bike
Ran 3 miles, 24 minutes. HR 165
Cool down, abs, squat, calf raisers. Still feeling sick by this time.

Saturday
One of those "ab classes" at the Wellness center. And just a thought, but I'm pretty sure no one goes to those classes to lose weight (*spot reduction). They go to get a six pack. You know, "Six Pack Abs" is the name of the class:P I have to shadow some of those, so today was the day.
Warm up: 10 minutes elliptical
Ran 6 miles, 49 minutes. HR 175
Cool down, although I think I might have strained a groin muscle... Feeling a little better now. Can breathe out of both nostrils already!:)

So here is my conclusion. I know nothing about anaerobic threshold, but I'm guessing my 8 minute mile is around it? It's the place I'm most comfortable running at this point in time.

Sunday, February 25, 2007

You're doing what!?

If anyone has any advice for running the half marathon... please feel free to let me know. Nutrition, running programs, running routes... ANYTHING, your thoughts are welcome. I want to run, but it'd be a first time for me. I THINK Chuck got me motivated, although I can't say I'll go with the run-walk method. We'll see in time. And if the final goal doesn't work out, I'll be in some of the best shape of my life just attempting.

Saturday, February 24, 2007

*Sigh*

So about iceberg lettuce.... So when people go to buy their heads of lettuce at the neighborhood Hornbacher's, you're telling me it is completely a waste of time because it's not actually good for them? So all those salad's at the dining center I've been eating just... tasted bad and that's it? I guess it's better than anything they actually COOK at the dining center... Who knows. Anyway, I tried working out this week without my HR monitor because I feel like sometimes it distracts me from focusing on what I need to get done.

Tuesday
Treadmill 2.8 miles - 1% incline - 6.8 mph
15 minutes abs

Wednesday
Treadmill 2 miles - 1% incline - 6.8 mph
abs, upper, and lower body

My HR usually FEELS about 175 at any pace that's above a jog when running on the treadmill.
I'll try some sprinting later.

Let me say this though: I have big plans for the next...... 12 weeks. Maybe.

Ready... Set... Dodgeball!

I played dodgeball in the 2nd Annual Fargo Dodgeball tournament yesterday. We were originally signed up for the co-ed league... but when the other teams found out our team was signed up, they all forfeited on the spot;) So they turned it into the "Adult Dodgeball Tournament" and as it turns out, my team was the only one with girls on it. Three to be exact. There were five teams, played round-robin, a match consists of five games, so best out of five won... And we went 3-1! Being one of the only girls out there, I'm going to have to say that those cocky guys in the football jersey uniforms had to be pretty ashamed at their loss. And the bulging baseball players from the Aakers team probably lost all dignity they had left. We lost to a team of some friends of mine, but it wasn't entirely unexpected. They won at the Prairie Rose State games and have been practicing (literally) together for years. Kudos to them. The moral of the story is... my HR was probably at 120 just sitting there, getting nervous for playing (not because I was scared, because I was excited I'm sure) and during the game it was probably at a good 170. It was a good time, but I'm not gonna lie... I'm a bit sore.

Have a good one!

You're in my dreams Chuck...

So I just had to write about this dream... because it applies, don't worry.

I was sitting next to Chuck and he thought I was some drug addict. So he forced me to shoot up first some heroin, then some cocaine. Of course I refused, but he jammed the needles in my leg anyway and I could not believe what he had done! The veins in my body started visually pulsating so I strapped on my heart rate monitor to get the results. As Chuck completely ignored this, I found my HR to be 297 bpm! I went and shoved my watch in his face and all he could say was "Wow Jesse... you should settle down..." !

Sunday, February 11, 2007

So I got a job at the Wellness Center. Hopefully it goes well, I'm kinda nervous.

Here are some different HR monitor activities I've tried...

Up 6 flights of stairs: Start- 120 End- 175

Guitar Hero - Between 100-110... doesn't vary as much as one would think, even on the hard parts in expert.

Halo - 110ish... I definitely get more worked up killing people than playing music. More at stake or something.

Eating lunch at the lovely dining center - Between 90-100

Lifting upper body - Between 120 and 150... never higher than 160

Lifting lower body - Between 100 and 120... never higher than 140

Amongst my group of friends, there's been a debate about whether or not the size of your arteries and heart matters in heart rate... For me, it's logical that if your arteries are smaller than others, the heart has to beat faster in order to get blood where it needs to go. It's like a garden hose and a fire hose. If the garden hose is going to release as much water as the fire hose, then wouldn't it have to "beat" faster? Haha... I just made up this logic now, and it may not make any sense. Maybe I should find out if girl's HRs are on average faster than a guy's. Usually girls are smaller... which means they might have smaller arteries... in which case it would make sense that there's a correlation between size of arteries and HR. Who knows. I gotta go.

First Day of Warm-Ups

So after Tuesday I started considering maybe I should just do like, 6 warm-ups for my workouts instead of busting my ass on the treadmill.

AVG HR during: 165

6 warm-ups of lunges really did me in. It hurts to walk upstairs. I'm such a pussy. Anyway....
I just signed my life away at the Wellness Center... got the job there... should be interesting, but I'm kinda nervous. Hopefully it's a little fun.

G'night all.

VO2 Max Tests

So for the VO2 max predictions I was a little disappointed. I mean... I'm really not THAT out of shape, yet I scored average on the treadmill and bicycle test, and below average on the step test. And I'm just wondering... is the "average" of the entire population or is it for only the population that might have done that testing? Say individuals like us, in a class, or athletes, or people that go in for yearly physicals. But not the general population?

I'm sure a lot of things affect the testing... asthma, what you ate and drank before, whether you had a hard workout the day before, menstrual cycle, drug usage (steroids, amond others), situation (like Chuck said, if there's no motivation to keep going on that treadmill, are you really going to try as hard as would say, in a race?), and many other various things.

Maybe we'll do these tests again at the end of the semester to see if we've improved at all. That'd be interesting.

Basketball

So we won our first game last night... 41-11. And given that the girls score 2s and 3s and the guys score 1s and 2s, my friend Killer, my sister, and I score approximately.... one fourth of the points or so:P Hopefully I get better.

Went to the Wellness Center today.

Warm up

2.2 miles at 6.5 miles an hour (little under 20ish minutes)
AVG HR - I think the results were skewed. When I first got the HR monitor it seemed to work fine, but now it slides down when I'm running. Once I looked at it and it was at 129, which is where I'm at when I stand up, or get a little nervous about something.

My guess would be around the high 170s. The treadmill said 164, my HR monitor said 152. Both a little off I would imagine.

I'll have to remedy this somehow.

Test?

Does anyone know when this test is going to be? Hopefully not tomorrow...:s

Summer Seems So Far Away

I wish it was summer. With the BSA never having open gym these days and my extreme dislike for the cold weather and lack of grass and sun, I am getting pretty complacent here in the dorms. But what can you do? I wonder what the statistics are for inactivity in the snowy, cold states compared to the others. Anyway, there's a crapload of stuff I've got to get done this week so I'll get on with it.

Jogged a mile in 9.5 minutes.
AVG HR - 170

Leg Extension - 3x8 (55 lbs)
Leg Press - 3x10 (100 lbs)
Tricep Pushdown - 3x10 (55 lbs?)
Shoulder Press - 3x10 (25 lbs)

My HR usually never gets above 160 when lifting.

15 minutes of abs... balance ball, crunches, stabilizers, etc. Who knows what they're all called.

First intramural basketball game of the semester tonight. I WOULD wear the HR monitor just to see, but I think it'll throw off my game...

Friday, January 26, 2007

Tuesday, January 23, 2007

So my usual workout partner, a very long legged male specimen, finally got over his pink eye and decided to come lifting with me again on Tuesday. Last post I ran a ten-minute mile on the treadmill, and this time I decided to run a mile with said specimen around the loop. Of course, keeping my dignity and trying to keep up with him, we finished the mile in a little over 7.5 minutes.

AVG HR - 188

Which means, maybe that +/- 12 bpm to the max heart rate holds some truth.

Also lifted light:
Leg Press - 2x10 (100 lbs)
Leg Curl - 2x10 (40 lbs)
Leg Ext - 2x10 (40lbs)
Shoulder Press - 2x10 (25 lbs)
Tricep Pushdown - 2x10 (55 lbs?)
Lat Pulldown - 2x10 (70 lbs?)

Also, I did the resting heart rate while sleeping a while back. Pretty sure it was a good reading.

"True" resting HR - 72

I find I get more accomplished when I workout alone.

Sunday, January 21, 2007

Light workout at the Wellness Center today.

10 minute jog @ 6.5
AVG HR - 175

I even did some of those embarrassing stretches around the loop beforehand.

Still sore from my workout earlier in the week so did some abs and got out of there.

Question: Why, on the way to working out, do I take the elevator instead of doing the six flights of stairs? It's beyond me.

The Warm-Up

Although not new to the dynamic stretching/warm-up, I did learn a few new ones.

My heart's usually beatin' around 95 or so in class. I got it up to 153 during some sort of twisting, lunging, posing activity, and up to a whopping 183 during the build up to a sprint. Pretty sad, I know. Just goes to show sprinting is not some sort of warm-up activity one should be doing.

More later.

My first blog

So I figured my first blog would be a little more... me. But what can you do? When one is assigned such homework by THE Chuck Fountaine, one must oblige him. Here's to the journey that is HNES 272.

Cheers.
